On this November 22, 2008, join us in observing Victory in Iraq Day.

Let us honor the sacrifice, dedication and sheer determination of American, coalition and Iraqi troops who have brought freedom to the nation and people of Iraq.

Although our governments have chosen to not name any official day marking the end of this war, we the people have taken it upon ourselves to commemorate November 22, 2008 as the day of victory over the forces of tyranny, oppression and terror in Iraq.

Join fellow bloggers and other members of the public in this virtual ticker-tape parade for our brave troops, to celebrate their success, to remember the fallen, and to declare, in the words of President John F. Kennedy (RIP):

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

Please God, make it stop!

Did you naively think that Obama’s election as President and the nearly total cessation of any hostilities in Iraq would finally spell the end of the anti-war protests that have occasionally erupted since 2003? Silly you. Because on November 10, 2008, the relentless members of the anti-American political cult World Can’t Wait uncorked a fresh new protest in downtown Berkeley, this time calling on Obama to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan.

Zombietime reader “Jackanape” filmed this video of a shouting match between World Can’t Wait and some pro-American counter-protesters who were dogging them.

The Daily Californian had a videographer on hand as well, and produced this report about the protest, with scenes from earlier in the afternoon when it started on the U.C. Berkeley campus.

World Can’t Wait wore their now-standard Guantanamo prisoner uniforms, with some big plastic chains for extra impact.

To complete the illusion of time travel to a different era, a Ron Paul for President volunteer showed up to observe the anachronistic proceedings.

Will these kinds of protests ever end? I have a terrible suspicion that the answer is “No.”

After a pause for some more arguing with the patriotic counter-protesters, off everybody trooped to the Marine Corps Recruiting Office. Even though Code Pink finally had the wisdom to call it quits and permanently end their futile year-long siege of the office, World Can’t Wait didn’t get the memo, and has now apparently assumed the mantle of leadership in the anti-Marines cause.

And remember: Stop thinking like an American!

The bumpers of Berkeley have descended into chaos in the aftermath of November 4th.

Well, that didn’t take long. First the owner was pro-Obama (on the left side of the bumper), but within days after helping to get his candidate elected, the owner declares Obama to be “not my president” (the sticker on the right). Took Obama less than a week to assume the role of oppressor!

(Of course there are those among you who will argue that this juxtaposition of messages was purely unintentional, but I beg to differ.)

Just blocks away, this bumper exhibited even more head-scratching multi-layered opinions about Obama. First there was a sticker criticizing Obama and McCain; then, on the right, now partly covered up, a purely anti-Obama sticker; then, strangely, someone just took the picture of Obama from that second sticker and attached it on the far left side of the bumper; and then someone put a pro-Obama sticker on top of the anti-Obama sticker on the right; and in the final stroke of incomprehensibility, someone then peeled off just part of the pro-Obama sticker to reveal part of the anti-Obama sticker underneath.

Talk about conflicted!

Wherever I travel in the Bay Area, I’m always on the lookout for car bumper stickers with hypocritical messages about oil, energy and the environment, as possible entries in an upcoming second edition of my Concourse of Hypocrisy. But my jaw hit the pavement when I unexpectedly came upon this anti-hypocritical pro-nuclear power sticker — in Berkeley, of all places:

In all my years, I have never seen a pro-nuke bumper sticker — especially in Berkeley, which is after all a nuclear-free zone.

The same fad-conscious environmentalists who opposed nuclear power in the ’80s are now the ones obsessed with “global warming,” but in the sweetest of ironies the Great Global Warming Hoax has given a huge boost to the moribund nuclear power industry, since nuclear plants create energy without producing greenhouse gas emissions. What a dilemma!

Spotted in a window of a house in the San Francisco Bay Area:

That’s Sarah Palin with monsters in her hair, Medusa-style.

The lettering was added by an adult, upon close inspection.

In case there’s any doubt that this was created by an Obama-supporting family, here’s the same sign in context in the window, with a pro-Obama sign at the top (a little hard to make out, but it’s visible).

When was the last time in American history that people painted portraits of presidential candidates (or even presidents) on their houses?

Never.

All hail the icon!

At a pro-Obama event in Berkeley a few days ago, I spotted these two T-shirts:

Here’s a woman showing her love for Fallujah, the one-time Al Qaeda stronghold in Iraq. And if you think she’s showing her support for the new democratic pacified Fallujah, dream on. I’m quite sure the shirt is a souvenir from 2004, when siding with the “insurgents” in Fallujah against American troops was de rigeuer in Berkeley.

Here she is paying a visit to the “Department of Peace” booth set up by some Obama supporters.

A couple minutes later, leaving the event, I ran into this guy with his “Defend Oakland” shirt featuring a machine gun. And no, he’s not talking about defending it from criminals — he’s talking about defending it from the police. The slogan and the concept are left over from the Black Panther era.

At first glance, it’s a pro-McCain sticker. Or is it? Seen from a distance on the freeway, or glanced at in passing, all you’d notice is a picture of McCain and a call for more of the same with McCain (or “MCcain” in this case), presumably showing their approval of a continued Republican administration. Only by squinting at the fine print will you realize that the message is sarcastic, and the owner of the car is actually mocking McCain and promoting Obama. But who can even read print that small while driving at 60 miles per hour?

For these reasons, I nominate this as the “Most ineffective Obama bumper sticker of the campaign.”
